What is How to Kill a Superhero and why should I care?

HTKS is a series of four novels by author Cesar Torres (writing under the pen name Pablo Greene) that explore the identity of the main character Roland, a queer Mexican person living in Kansas City. Should I start reading with Book 1?
2
This is highly recommended. The book is told sequentially and chronologically. Many of the twists and reveals are dependent on the reader starting with book 1. However, you should feel free to start in any way you like. We are not here to control the way you prefer to read.
Is Cesar Torres the same person as Pablo Greene?
3
Yes, but keep in mind that Cesar created the Pablo Greene pen name and persona in 2012 as a way to explore the pulpy aspects of fiction writing, and keeping in sync with the explorations of identity that the superhero archetype affords, Cesar chose the name Pablo Greene as a way to generate an alter ego, in the same way Peter Parker/Spiderman or Clark Kent/Superman offered new dimensions of identify to the heroes of those stories. However, it’s worth noting that Cesar Torres also chose to move on from the Pablo Greene persona. After a few years, Cesar felt that the alter ego was no longer necessary, because all of Cesar’s universes (The Coil, Our Lord of the Flowers, LED Queens) were coming from the same creator. So in essence, Cesar did finally kill a superhero, but they did it in order to move further into their true self as a person and and artist.
